Twice Yearly Lake Cleanup

Twice a year FOLKS Volunteers clean the entire shoreline of Lake Keowee. Nine commanders each organize their brigades to clean a specific section. In total, about 110 boats fan out each April and Oct to cover the entire lake. The collectors place the trash at specific points around the lake and Duke Energy provides the pick-up. Large items which cannot be lifted into boats are mapped so Duke can locate and remove them. Some years professional divers have been utilized for lake bottom cleaning of particularly littered areas.

Cleanup teams also provide additional set of eyes that detect and report additional lake concerns.
