About 20 Boy Scouts and their adult leaders helped FOLKS transplant 18 junipers, put down mulch and moved brush to a rented chipper, Saturday morning November 17. At the same time about eight FOLKS Board members and friends put limbs and brush into the chipper to prepare the edge of the wooded area for planting next spring. The work was a part of the Low Impact Development (LID) demonstration project FOLKS has undertaken to demonstrate native plants that are suitable for planting in the buffer. FOLKS has been working with Dr. Mary Haque, professor of the Clemson Horticulture Landscaping program, Rene Byrd graduate assistant. and recently has secured the services of David Simpson with a MS in Plant and Environmental Sciences, to coordinate the project. David taught the boys how to transplant evergreens and put down mulch.
